Meet Ruby

That’s right, this is my Yamaha V-Star 650 and her name is Ruby. She’s beautiful and with a polished 40-cubic-inch air-cooled, 70-degree V-twin engine, she’s great on country roads. I realize that motorcycles seem reckless, but it’s a calculated risk. Plus the experience of riding on a bike is second to none. Now that it is winter, my husband and I are trying to decide whether to winterize our bikes or go for winter rides. We may have to invest in some winter gear. Seems crazy? Of course it is. But tell me, could you leave this beautiful bike locked up in a garage all winter?

Run, Jong, Run

I started running just before law school, and I hated it at first. Since then I have been an on and off runner, but I find that I always return to it. The simplicity and independence of running truly appeals to me, especially with my hectic schedule. Recently both of my children have taken up running. I am proud to say that I ran a 5K with my daughter last year. Now I am helping my son train for a 5K this spring. I tend to be a solitary runner, but running with my children has helped me bond with them even more. Yet another reason to keep hitting the pavement.

Eat, Jong, Eat

Have you ever heard anyone say they’ll eat anything as long as it is fried? Maybe you have even heard me say it. Some women get a special joy when given a little blue box from Tiffany™. I get the same feeling when my meal comes with a little nugget of some deep fried morsel on the side. Once I was eating at a highly recommended restaurant and I ordered veal chops (yes, baby cow). Nestled lovingly next to my veal chop was this gift of a golden fried fritter of some sort. Imagine my disappointment when I bit into this nugget – thinking it to be fried polenta or a fried sweet corn fritter – and finding a white, gelatinous, mildly salty center. It tasted… suspect. Imagine my horror when my dinner companion recalled that the waitress mentioned something about “macerated brain” in my dinner selection. So, is there a lesson to be learned here? Probably not. Sometimes you have to open every gift simply because the wrapping is so beautiful.
